16 Things You Need To Stop Doing To Yourself in 2016

2015 is coming to an end and i’m sure many of you are beginning to plan for the coming year, with high hopes that it will be better than the last one.

Having high hopes for a new year and viewing it as a fresh start is not a bad thing at all, it’s only bad if you think the new year is going to bring the change. Hate to break it to you, it won’t. The only way something is going to change for the better in your life is if you make that change.

In order to do that you need to stop doing the things that are currently holding you back. Here are 16 ideas to help you make 2016 an amazing new year.

1. Stop living in the past.

Living in the past will never create a healthy present. When you are too caught up with what happened in the past, you miss the beauty that’s right in front of you.

2. Stop feeling bad for yourself.

You are here for a reason and that reason isn’t to feel bad about yourself. Spend that energy on something positive, like focusing on building your dreams.

3. Stop blaming yourself.

Life happens the way it’s supposed to happen. It’s not your fault.

4. Stop comparing yourself.

Nothing good comes out of comparing yourself to others. Like Theodore Roosevelt once put it, “Comparison is the thief of joy”. Also remember, not everything posted on social media is completely true. (There’s filters and editing people!)

5. Stop being ungrateful.

No matter how “bad” your life seems right now there is always something to be grateful for. Are you wearing shoes? Do you have food in your fridge? Are you reading this on a cell phone or laptop? Remember, there are so many people in the world who work so hard just for some clean water. Practice being grateful for the little things and you’ll discover even more things you have to be grateful for.

6. Stop trying to follow someone else’s footsteps towards success.

When you are working to accomplish your dreams it is good to research how other people got to where you want to be but if you spend too much time reading other people’s journey, you lose out on your own. We all have a different path to follow in life. Learn from others success but don’t try to mimic their footsteps, you have your own.

7. Stop focusing on the bad.

There will always be something “wrong” in your life but if you spend all your time and energy focusing on that one bad thing you lose out on seeing all the good around you. When you focus on the good you will begin to see your entire life differently.

8. Stop putting yourself down.

The way you talk to yourself is one of the determining factors if you will be successful and happy throughout your life. If you tell yourself you are not good enough, pretty enough or smart enough your subconscious mind is believing that is true. Stop! Give yourself compliments every single day, you deserve it!

9. Stop viewing your financial situation as “not enough”.

Your perception creates your reality so if you want to make more money in the new year, believe you already have enough. Abundance people!

10. Stop putting things off.

In order to make the changes you want in your life you need to stop thinking you’re not ready. You already have all the tools, smarts, looks, and money you need to create the life of your dreams. Stop putting off your goals and just go for it!

11. Stop trying to be someone you’re not.

When you are your authentic self you have no competition. (If you need some inspiration read this poem.)

12. Stop looking outside yourself for happiness.

Nothing will bring you happiness if you don’t have happiness internally. Work on ways you can feel happy without looking on the outside. Here’s one way to get started.

13. Stop thinking that your current situation is “forever”.

The only thing that is constant is change, which means no situation will last forever. Trust the journey.

14. Stop viewing change as a bad thing.

You will be living in a never ending battle if you choose to fight change. Change is inevitable. Embrace it.

15. Stop thinking you aren’t worthy.

The first step to being successful is believing you are worthy of being successful. You are worthy of having everything you desire in life. Believe in yourself.

16. Stop trying to impress others.

Trying to impress others just brings constant worry into your life and causes you to have low self-esteem, which is a recipe for disaster. The only person you need to impress is yourself. Work hard, stay focused on your goals and surround yourself with people who love you for who you are.
