This year on Thanksgiving my mom, dad, sister, and I are headed to a friends house to have Friendsgiving! This will be the first time we are not with my aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. The reason- we are choosing to surround ourselves with people who are kind and love us for who we are. I’m not saying my family doesn’t love us but overtime there has been so many arguments over materialistic things and so many disagreements over lifestyle choices that it just has blown up to too much already.
On Periscope, I am constantly receiving the question, “how can I eliminate the people in my life who are extremely negative?” Now I know that many times you can’t just drop them from your life, especially if you work or live with them but what you can do is distance yourself for some time. You do not have to fall victim to other people’s chosen mindset.
My family (mom, dad, & sister) and I have been through a lot this past year from me being sick for a straight 6 months to my parents splitting up to my dog dying… we are ready for just some peace and happiness.
So, this year we have finally taken a stand and decided to be with our friends for Thanksgiving. Life is meant to live for the moments and if you are always surrounded by people who bring up the past, put you down, or focus on the negative, it’s almost close to impossible to live in the moment.
Through hard times I have finally realized that life is too short to not do the things that make me happy. I am so excited and grateful to be surrounded by love, joy, and kindness this Thanksgiving.
Whoever you spend your holiday with, I hope you know that you have so much to be grateful for. Focus on the good, be grateful for the little things, and surround yourself with people who lift you up and love the authentic you.
I’m thankful for you,
